Level 1 British Sign Language

Our Level 1 BSL course is taught as three separate units, with an exam at the end of each unit. You will explore the basics of BSL and begin developing a strong foundation to build upon in future courses.

We recommend this course to anyone looking to begin learning BSL, with no prior or existing knowledge needed!

Your course fee includes all of your classes as well as any revision material. The exam fees for all 3 of your exams are also included.

What you will learn:

Unit BSL 101 – Introduction to BSL
Fingerspelling, Meeting People, Numbers, Weather, Transport, Directions.
Unit BSL 102 – Conversational Skills BSL At Home, People, Animals, Objects, Using Numbers, Interests & Activities, Food & Drink.
Unit BSL 103 – Communicate in BSL about Everyday Life Getting Around, Information Sharing, Using Numbers, Weather, Overview.

Fast Tracking

The most popular way of completing a Level 1 course is through the delivery of a ‘Fast Track’ course with a duration of 3 hours per class over 20 weeks to give candidates the opportunity to complete their training as quickly as possible. This is how we deliver our face-to-face classes here at Palm Deaf.

Please note, this differs for our online course, which is delivered in 2 hour sessions over a course of 30 weeks.

Times

Course Period: 20 weeks (Face-to-Face) or 30 weeks (Online)

Saturday Morning Course: 9:30am – 12:30pm (Begins 07/09/24)

Monday Evening Course: 5:00pm – 8:00pm (Begins 09/09/24)

Monday Online Course: 5:30pm – 9:30pm (Begins 09/09/24)

These courses run weekly and follow the Kent School term times. You will not have classes during half terms and holiday breaks.

An initial deposit of £50.00 will be required to secure your place on the course.

Should you choose to pay for your course by instalments, then a suitable instalment plan will be agreed with a small addition of £30.00 to the course fee to cover the additional administration required to administer a payment plan.
